Safety at work

This is a sight I witnessed yesterday. It must be said that the safety of the workers are a responsibility of the businesses in as much as they are of the government. Failures in worker safety are so common around here. It is time that these unfair practices are looked into with harsh penalties on businesses that put employees at risk.

signing up to ILO is one thing and genuinely working to address the issue of worker safety is another. Human exploitation is also quite another. We need to seriously address these issues in our country.

I agree, the practices are criminal and should be prosecuted as such. foreign workers need to have access to the legal system and a better understanding of their (currently almost non-existant?)rights.

And we Maldivans need to do a bit of soul searching to correct the rascist and indifferent attitudes we bear that have for soo long allowed such unfair and barbaric practices to happen in our country.
